A Maine museum will play host to a piece of rock it stated is the most important intact Mars rock on Earth.
The Maine Mineral & Gem Museum stated the specimen weighs 32 kilos (15 kilograms) and is about 10 inches (25 centimeters) at its longest level. The museum stated the rock was the results of an asteroid impression on the floor of Mars that ejected materials into an Earth-crossing orbit in space.
There are lower than 500 kilos (227 kilograms) of Mars rock recognized to exist on Earth, the museum stated.
The rock is called “Taoudenni 002.” The Bethel, Maine, museum stated it should embrace the rock when it opens to the general public on Sept. 1.
The museum stated it’s planning a reception with restricted capability on Aug. 31 to have fun the acquisition of the rock. Two scientists from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration are anticipated to attend, the museum stated.
