Animal-derived meals is a significant meals kind. Nontargeted screening of each veterinary medicine and their metabolites is essential for complete security analysis of animal-derived meals.

Recently, a analysis group led by Prof. XU Guowang from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) developed a novel nontargeted screening technique for threat substances in meals.

Their research was printed in Food Chemistry on August 21.

The researchers constructed an in-house mass spectra database containing 3,710 veterinary medicine and their metabolites, and summarized the fragmentation traits of mother or father medicine and drug metabolites. Then, they developed nontargeted screening technique to find recognized and unknown veterinary medicine and their metabolites in advanced meals matrices.

Moreover, they decided and recognized 4 veterinary drugs and three drug metabolites within the egg samples with this novel nontargeted screening method, which demonstrated its potential in threat substance screening for food safety.

“This study provides an important method for the discovery of food risk substances,” mentioned Prof. XU.
