Two galaxies with energetic galactic nuclei work together in dramatic vogue – Astronomy Now


When galaxies get shut sufficient to one another, tidal forces can tug complete star programs misplaced, distorting the shapes of the interacting pair in typically dramatic vogue. When galaxies with energetic galactic nuclei work together, the end result will be spectacular, as on this Hubble Space Telescope view of Arp 282, made up of Seyfert galaxy NGC 169 (backside) and IC 1559 (high). Hidden within the cores of each galaxies are supermassive black holes, actively feasting on surrounding stars, gasoline and dust. Delicate streams of matter will be seen visibly connecting the 2 galaxies in a dramatic, 3D-like demonstration of titanic tidal interactions.
